公司于1996年8月在深圳证券交易所上市，是我国第一家氮肥类上市公司，为国内化肥龙头企业。公司所处行业涵盖尿素、磷肥、氯碱和精细化工领域，在湖北、内蒙、青海、新疆等地拥有分子公司，高新技术企业。在“磷矿之都”宜昌周边设立磷化工生产基地，在新疆、内蒙古、青海等西部地区设立煤化工、氯碱化工生产基地，充分发挥各地资源优势。公司控股股东为湖北宜化集团有限责任公司，实际控制人为宜昌市国资委，为国有控股上市公司。公司产品主要包括尿素、磷酸二铵、聚氯乙烯、烧碱、合成氨、煤炭、三聚氰胺、季戊四醇、TMP、TPO、氟化铝等。公司化肥、化工产品产能位居行业前列。未来，公司将以落实“关改搬转”任务为契机，进一步提质增效，以煤、磷、盐、精细化工为基础，延链补链，耦合发展新能源、新材料、新型肥料及高端专用化学品等四大战略新兴产业，着力推进产业向绿色化、低碳化、循环化、智慧化、健康化迈进，实现从传统制造业向技术驱动的创新型化工企业的转型。
