Wind has developed a rigorous rating methodology based on the core connotations of ESG, aligning with international standards and frameworks, and incorporating the characteristics of Chinese companies, to assess the company's essential ESG performance, risk and its ability to operate sustainably.

Focusing on the ESG risks and opportunities of each industry, the companies are rated on a AAA-CCC scale relative to the performance of their industry peers. Wind ESG rating is updated annually or in response to major changes.

The Wind ESG Rating Issuer Communication Platform (esg.wind.com.cn) is now available. Rated companies can access their detailed rating information through this platform, and communicate with or provide feedback to the Wind ESG Rating team regarding specific rating components. Building on the foundation of domestic and international ESG policies and standards, our proprietary ESG rating framework considers the development of Chinese capital market and integrates the characteristics of the Chinese companies in various industries. The Wind ESG Rating framework is composed of management & practice and controversies assessment, including:

  • 500+ management & practices indicators, covering E, S and G pillars, reflecting long-term ESG fundamental impacts
  • 1,200+ risk labels, covering news, regulatory penalties and lawsuits, reflecting impact of short-term risks

Management & practice score is the weighted summation of E, S and G pillar scores. The weights reflect both the relative impact of each issue within each industry and the negative or positive contribution of each industry to the environment and society relative to other industries.

Controversies score and ESG score are updated daily, E, S and G pillar scores and management & practice score are updated with underlying data, corresponding data are released on various channels, including Wind Financial Terminal.
